Planning the Fall

It will be a very exiting fall. We will finish the first early version of Second Brain in September, and start testing and promoting it to people we know in and around the Making Waves network in October.

I am very careful about making a good first impression, so we won’t
start promoting it to the influentials in the marketplace until we’re
sure that we have something that’s ready for prime time. We we
have to be able to give a convincing argument of Second Brain’s
benefits. But most importantly, we have to be able to prove it. And
that’s is the goal of the second big milestone: the Second Brain Private
Beta.

The Private Beta is scheduled for the end of November. I also expect to
start working on the marketing of Second Brain early that month. I will
start quietly by contacting one of the main blogs on web2.0 and ask if
they want to get a sneak peak and do a quick review. They do that all
the time, so it shouldn’t be too hard. The review will probably
generete some interest from the geeks2.0. Some
will sign up to get an invitation to the beta, and others may want to
write about us. Second Brain will be in closed beta,
but depending on the feature set we have ready by then, we may be able
to add a few users every other day.

From there, it really all depends on how much the early users like Second Brain
and use it. We can move gradually from private to public - scale slowly.
But we have to get to the public beta as soon as possible to capitalize
on the initial interest that we get just because we are new and novel
(and good!). I’m aiming for January 2007. But it depends on the
resources that I can get from Making Waves and if any unforeseen
problems arise. But it’s looking good right now - we should blast it
out as soon as it is ready - it will probably never be completely finsished.
