ReadWriteWeb on the new Secondbrain

Sarah Perez just published a review about the new Secondbrain:

It’s not often you hear an application’s creators describe their service as “an unmanageable complexity” that “compromised the user experience,” but that’s exactly what those behind the content aggregation system Secondbrain are admitting right now. Their service, a bookmarking/social-media sharing/lifestreaming/social network kind of tool was hard to describe and even harder to use.

A small update to Secondbrain.com

We just did a few minor improvements to Secondbrain.

Among the updates are several performance improvements, the availability of edit options in all views and RSS feeds from the most important pages.

Now you can also change your registered email address in your settings panel.

There are several more updates coming in the next few weeks. If you would like to share some feedback, please visit our feedback forum on secondbrain.uservoice.com.

The new Secondbrain is live

The Team is proud to present a new and improved service to all users. We have listened to feedback from you who are using Secondbrain and made several changes that we think you will enjoy.
Online bookmarking should be easy. So we decided to go back to the basics – to make it as simple as possible to save, share and discover interesting bookmarks in your  Secondbrain.

This is what you need to know about the update
  • Your username and password are the same as before
  • All your bookmarks, pictures, video and files etc. that you’ve previously organized in Secondbrain are migrated to the new edition
  • We’ve disabled automatic syncronization of social media accounts
  • There’s currently no file uploading

The essential new features

  • More efficient navigation with a simplified library and more focus on collections
  • All your updates are listed under “What’s new”
  • Subscribe to specific collections instead of following everything from a user.
  • Bookmarks are saved to collections and tagging is optional
  • Control your privacy with three types of collections (Public, Restricted and Private)
  • Work together on collections by turning on ‘Collaboration’
  • Import bookmarks stored in your browser
  • Save bookmarks from your browser with our simplified browser tool (bookmarklet)

Secondbrain update in progress – 48 hours downtime scheduled

Finally, we are going to deploy a major change and update to Secondbrain.com. During this update, we need to take down the service for about 48 hours.

We expect Secondbrain.com to be taken down on Sunday evening around 1800 hours CET. If everything goes as planned, we expect to be back up within about 48 hours.

The new Secondbrain will be quite different from today’s version. We have simplified the product model to focus on adding bookmarks to collections. Our goal is to make online bookmarking simple and useful.

We promise to explain more about the new Secondbrain once we’re back up.

See you soon:)

Cheers!

A quick update from the Secondbrain team

It’s been a while since we updated our blog, but rest assured that we have been working behind the scenes on the next update of Secondbrain.com.

The new version should be ready for testing in a few weeks and we plan a public release as soon as our testpilots give us the thumbs up.

We’ll publish some more information on the upcoming release as we approach the launch. However, one bit of information that we can give today is that the new version will be simpler, faster and much more focused than the current release. We’ll have more details for you in our next post:)

Extending the invitation promotion

We have several $20 Amazon gift cards left, so instead of closing the promotion today, we decided to extend it until the 18th of December.

This will give more people a chance to get rewarded for introducing new people to our community.

We understand that some people may not like that we are changing the dates so late in the promotion, but we would like to introduce Secondbrain to as many people as possible, and to give more people a chance to participate.

All of you who are already qualified for a gift card will get your awards when the contest ends.

Good luck to you all and keep inviting your friends :-)
